Ah, sweet vacation! Whether you’re laying on a tropical beach or exploring the rich history and tasty delights of a foreign city, there is no denying how spectacular and life-enriching traveling the world can be. Something that is important to remember is that travel, like so many other things, is being marketed to us. As humans, we all have the desire for expansion. Somewhere around the 1960/70 's marketing companies began using this desire to serve their bottom line – convincing us that a new outfit, a makeover or new car will satisfy our desire for expansion. I am sure like me, you know first hand that these methods only quench our desire temporarily. The important question I encourage you to think about before planning your next vacation is ..........Why are you planning the vacation?
If you are planning the vacation to enrich your life by exploring a new country and learning new things or to visit with friends and family great! But if you find yourself daydreaming and planning a vacation to escape your life because you find your life overwhelming or unbearable – that is something different.
Planning a vacation is a great and very temporary way to by-pass the actual hard work necessary to create a real lasting change in your life. It may be worthwhile to think instead about investing in a life coach, therapist or enrolling in a course that could help you build the courage to take that next meaningful step in your life. I passionately believe that two of the best ways to quench your deep desire for expansion in a lasting way is through learning and helping other people. Sharing this blog post with you has certainly helped quench my thirst today…… what will you do?
